In October, the Cixi Ningbo cotton slippers industrial belt in Zhejiang Province enters its busiest export season of the year. According to Ningbo Customs, in the first three quarters, the city's footwear export value increased by about 12% year-on-year, with cotton slippers showing outstanding performance. Cixi, as a major production base for cotton slippers in China, has a complete industrial chain from fabrics and soles to finished products, with an annual output of over hundreds of millions of pairs, exported to Europe, America, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia.
"This year, overseas customers placed orders earlier and in larger volumes, especially for winter warm cotton slippers. Orders from Europe and North America increased by more than 20% year-on-year," said a representative from the Cixi Footwear Association. Driven by expectations of a cold winter and the continued home economy, overseas buyers' demand for warm, comfortable, and eco-friendly cotton slippers has risen significantly.
The cotton slipper industry in Cixi and Ningbo began in the 1990s. After years of development, it has formed an industrial cluster centered in Cixi. Here, hundreds of Cixi cotton slipper manufacturers gather, with supporting enterprises covering plush fabrics, EVA soles, embroidery processing, etc. The supply chain responds quickly, and the new product development cycle can be shortened to one week.
"Our customers are mainly from large supermarkets like Walmart and Carrefour, as well as small and medium sellers on Amazon. They have high requirements for delivery and quality, and the industrial chain in Cixi can quickly meet them," said a local export company manager. In recent years, more and more Cixi cotton slipper manufacturers have begun to focus on independent design and brand building, launching functional products such as anti-slip, antibacterial, and machine-washable, to increase added value.
From the export perspective, despite uncertainties from global inflation and exchange rate fluctuations, cotton slippers, as seasonal necessities, have relatively stable demand. When selecting products, overseas buyers pay more attention to the warmth, anti-slip, and easy-clean properties of winter warm cotton slippers. At the same time, small-batch, multi-batch order patterns are becoming popular, which places higher demands on the flexible supply capabilities of Cixi cotton slipper manufacturers.
Industry insiders analyze that in the future, the Cixi Ningbo cotton slippers industrial belt will continue to transform towards high-end and green development. With the implementation of RCEP and the development of cross-border e-commerce, Southeast Asia and the Middle East markets are expected to become new growth points. For overseas buyers, conducting on-site inspections in Cixi and Ningbo and establishing long-term cooperation with local manufacturers will be key to seizing market opportunities.
