As a major manufacturing base on China's eastern coast, Cixi in Ningbo, Zhejiang, has long been known for home footwear. Recently, China Cixi cotton slippers export has posted strong performance. According to incomplete statistics from the local industry association, in the first half of 2024, Cixi's cotton slipper export value rose by about 12% year-on-year, with products reaching Europe, the US, Japan, South Korea and the Middle East. Cixi has formed a complete chain from fabric weaving and filling processing to sole molding, producing over 300 million pairs of cotton slippers annually, making it one of the core areas of China's cotton slipper industry belt.
The competitiveness of Cixi's cotton slipper industry comes first from its highly concentrated supply chain. In Cixi and nearby Yuyao and Zhenhai, hundreds of fabric, accessory and finished shoe companies are gathered, with a local supporting rate of over 80%. This cluster effect allows Cixi cotton slipper manufacturers to respond quickly to overseas orders, typically taking only 15 to 20 days from sampling to mass production. In recent years, as demand for winter indoor cotton slippers continues to rise in European and American markets, many factories have increased R&D investment in anti-slip soles, machine-washable fabrics and antibacterial fillings. A factory manager in Zhouxiang Town, Cixi, said orders from Germany and the Netherlands have increased noticeably this year, with customers paying more attention to environmental certification and comfort.
From an export perspective, China Cixi cotton slippers export is facing structural opportunities. On the one hand, global home consumption habits have continued after the pandemic, and warm, lightweight cotton slippers maintain rigid demand in North American and European winter markets. On the other hand, emerging markets such as Southeast Asia and the Middle East are growing rapidly, becoming new sources of growth. However, fluctuating shipping prices, tariff adjustments in some countries and rising raw material costs also put pressure on exports. Industry insiders believe that the Cixi industrial belt needs to shift from 'scale advantage' to 'quality advantage,' consolidating competitiveness through digital sampling, small-batch quick response and green production.
For overseas buyers, paying attention to the flexible supply capacity of Cixi cotton slipper manufacturers is becoming more important. Currently, more and more Cixi companies support small-batch customization and mixed container loading to reduce buyers' inventory risks. At the same time, some leading factories have begun to use recycled cotton and biodegradable packaging to comply with European environmental regulations. It is foreseeable that with the maturity of cross-border e-commerce and overseas warehouse models, China Cixi cotton slippers export is expected to maintain medium-to-high growth in the next three years, and Cixi's position as the core of the industrial belt will be further strengthened.
