By Li Hua, Staff Reporter. In the second quarter of 2025, the cotton slipper industry cluster in Cixi and Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, is entering a new export peak. According to Ningbo Customs, from January to April, cotton slipper export value from these two areas grew by about 12% year-on-year, with notable growth in European and American markets. Industry insiders note that the Cixi Ningbo cotton slippers industry cluster is transforming from traditional OEM to design-driven manufacturing, as overseas buyers demand more functionality and eco-friendliness.
Cixi and Ningbo are geographically adjacent, forming a complete supply chain from fabrics and soles to packaging. Currently, this region hosts more than 500 cotton slipper manufacturers, with annual output accounting for over 30% of China's total cotton slipper export volume. Recently, many factories have added automated cutting machines and computerized embroidery equipment to handle small-batch, multi-variety orders.
'We see more buyers asking for small MOQs and faster replenishment,' said a factory owner in Cixi. 'This forces us to be more flexible.'
During visits, several company managers said European clients are beginning to require carbon footprint reports and recycled material certificates. To meet this, companies within the Cixi Ningbo cotton slippers industry cluster have adopted recycled cotton and biodegradable EVA soles. Meanwhile, fluctuations in logistics costs for cotton slipper export have prompted buyers to prioritize delivery stability. Some cotton slipper manufacturers have compressed sampling lead time from 7 days to 3 days through digital production scheduling.
Notably, new channels like independent websites and TikTok Shop are changing purchasing habits. Many cotton slipper manufacturers now offer dropshipping and custom packaging services to attract small and medium buyers.
Wang Ming, secretary-general of the Ningbo Leather Industry Association, said: 'The advantage of the Cixi Ningbo cotton slippers industry cluster lies in supply chain collaboration. Going forward, continuous investment in branding and standards is needed.'
The Ningbo Footwear Association predicts that with Christmas orders gradually placed in the second half of the year, cotton slipper export is expected to maintain double-digit growth. However, some companies worry about exchange rate fluctuations and shipping prices. Overall, with its flexible supply chain and quick response capabilities, the Cixi Ningbo cotton slippers industry cluster is consolidating its core position in the global cotton slipper market.
