The cotton slipper industrial cluster in Cixi, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, is welcoming a new peak production and sales season. According to local industry association statistics, Cixi's cotton slipper exports grew by about 15% year-on-year in 2024, with orders from Europe and the US accounting for over 60%. As one of China's largest cotton slipper production bases, the China Cixi cotton slippers industry cluster is transitioning from traditional OEM to branding and intelligent manufacturing.
Cixi boasts a complete supply chain, from fabrics and fillings to soles and packaging. Cixi cotton slipper manufacturers can complete all supporting processes within a 3-kilometer radius. This cluster effect shortens delivery time to 7-10 days, far below the industry average of 20 days. This year, many companies have introduced automated cutting and smart hanging systems, further improving production efficiency.
Due to extreme cold weather in winter, demand for winter warm cotton slippers in the European market continues to rise. Importers from Germany, the Netherlands, and other countries have increased their inquiries to Cixi suppliers. Meanwhile, emerging markets such as the Middle East and South America are also favoring cost-effective Chinese cotton slippers. According to Ningbo Customs data, from January to October 2024, Cixi's cotton slipper export value reached $230 million, up 18% year-on-year.
However, competition is intensifying. Southeast Asian countries are diverting some low-end orders with their labor cost advantages. Cixi companies are responding by enhancing design and using eco-friendly materials, such as developing recyclable cotton slippers and graphene-heated cotton slippers.
In the past, the China Cixi cotton slippers industry cluster mainly focused on OEM labeling with thin margins. Today, a number of Cixi cotton slipper manufacturers have begun to build overseas design teams, launch their own brands, and reach consumers directly through cross-border e-commerce platforms. In 2024, Cixi cotton slipper sales on Amazon, TikTok Shop, and other channels grew by over 40% year-on-year.
The local government has also introduced policies to support companies in attending international exhibitions and applying for international certifications. The Cixi Footwear Association recently organized companies to attend the GDS shoe fair in Germany, securing intended orders worth over $50 million. Looking ahead, smart and fashionable winter warm cotton slippers will be a major trend, and the China Cixi cotton slippers industry cluster is expected to occupy a higher position in the global value chain.
